Our story began in war… Not in comfort. Not in certainty. But in survival. In 1979, our family escaped with nothing but the clothes on our backs, leaving everything behind for a chance at life.

We boarded a small boat with 200 others… The sea was unforgiving. We were seasick, starving, and weak reduced to skin and bones. For 16 nights and 17 days, we drifted across the ocean not knowing if we would make it.

We arrived in Hong Kong and were placed in a refugee camp. Families were crowded into small spaces, without enough beds just trying to survive each day. Then everything changed.

God placed incredible people in our lives, christian families from Lacombe. They helped us rebuild everything, until we could stand on our own.

Two years later we moved to Calgary. A new Beginning. A new life.

However, our story does not end there… Years later my husband’s family faced the same unimaginable journey. They too escaped war on an even smaller, more dangerous boat with much greater risks. But like us, they held on to hope and survived.

From different paths, through the same struggles, our families became one. Built on resilience, guided by faith and driven by hard work.

In 2021 we took over Delicious Jems Farmers Market. To us, every egg, every product, every smile you see here comes from a story of survival, gratitude and community.
